VPA Omega Broadhead

I used the 300gr version for hunting bear and Elk. I have successfully harvested a bear @ 30 yards last year in Colorado. I’m shooting a Hoyt 33 with full length arrows. My arrow weight is running 660gr. I like the way they sharpen and the damage it causes was very impressive.

So far so good 28 yard shot blew right throughand a huge blood trail to follow although I didn’t need it. The deer died 30 yards away from where I shot!

The 4 blade Omegas are small compact and deadly. Only knock I had was each bleeder blade had a Chattered edge. It was only the bleeder blades But was the same for all 6 heads in 2 separate packs.Will just have to sharpen sooner than later.

I picked up a 3 pack of the 200g Omega prior to deer season to use with my trad-bow setup. As expected, these head required sharpening out of the box. Once sharpened, they were SHARP. Some of you know what I mean. Some steal just doesn't get as sharp as others, and definitely won't retain that edge for long, but these do.
The front end of the edge is effectively a cut on contact "double bevel" and it does not get as sharp as the back end of the blade, but still has an edge capable of the cut on contact performance. This beefier front bevel takes a lot of the abuse off the edge of the blades...more on that later.
The back end is where things get scary sharp. WARNING: if you test edges by shaving arm hair and press hard enough to cut hair with the front end of the edge, you'll cut yourself with the back end. This is a true single bevel edge, and is responsible for opening the wound channel up to the listed cutting diameter (and more due to tissue tension).
I used one head for multiple shots, and unfortunately multiple misses! Nothing but dirt. With a little touch up, the edge was good as new. That front end no doubt had a part in preventing severe edge chatter or roll.
Eventually, I took a deer. Steep shot angle downward. The Omega went between shoulder blades, through ribs, the lungs, aorta, and into the ground. Still sharp enough to cut my own thumb while cleaning it!
The blood trail was a perfect low exit, walking speed recovery.

This past spring got talking with a fellow that works for vpa, but didn't know at the time, sent me couple packs and shoot just like my field points. Been bowhunting over 30years and up until last Friday I was like everyone else made some lethal shots in my time hunting, but when I shot that doe and the reaction was devastating, can honestly say she was dead before know what hit her. Sharpen up easy ill never use another broadhead in my hunting career. Also last but not least, vpa has top notch customer service not like other companies in the hunting industry. So get ya pack won't regret it one bit promise

Finally a single bevel design that is robust and simple to sharpen. I recently purchased these because of the design and the fact they are machined from S7 tool steel. Upon opening the packaging, I weighed each head and they were 200.1, 199 and 198.6 grains respectively. It was also very obvious these heads were NOT sharp and needed attention. Not a big deal, because most who shoot this type of head realize they must be sharpened throughout the life of the broadhead. It should be noted, it only took approximately 20 minutes per head to bring these to scary sharpness. I also spin tested each head and they were all perfect. Most archers speak of broadheads flying like field tips and I can't comment on that because, I don't shoot field tips. However, I can say these heads fly like darts and my sticks are 29 3/4" and have 19% FOC. If you're on the fence, just go ahead and purchase these heads because you won't be disappointed! I love single bevels and have hunted with many. One of my biggest issues with them however is sharpening. I'll admit, I'm not the best and I struggle getting a used single bevel sharp again. This head solves the problem! No extra jigs, simple and straight-forward. And as you would expect, this head is top-notch quality and flies true. Hoping VPA offers more weight options because this head is a winner.
